90 in 90: Man Utd 2 Derby 2 – Derby win 8-7 on penalties

by Sam Matterface

Manchester United crashed out of the League Cup on penalties, on the same day Jose Mourinho told Paul Pogba he did not possess the qualities to captain the team.

Phil Jones missed the decisive spot kick, after 15 consecutive kicks had been converted successfully.

Juan Mata opened the scoring after three minutes, only for Derby to lead in stoppage time thanks to a Harry Wilson wonder goal and Jack Marriott’s first for the club.

Frank Lampard’s team were better throughout and deserved to progress despite a late Fellaini header.
