Sam Vokes marked his 100th Premier League game by scoring the winner as Burnley condemned Cardiff to a 2-1 defeat – making this the Bluebirds’ worst start to a season since 1964.
Welsh international Vokes nodded in Johann Berg-Gudmundsson’s cross 20 minutes from time as Burnley collected back-to-back wins for the first time this term.
Icelander Berg-Gudmundsson had earlier headed his first goal since February to give Sean Dyche’s men the lead.
Josh Murphy equalised for Cardiff with a long-range curler but his first goal for the club counted for little.
